Norfolk man arrested in abduction of 3-month-old in February
CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) — A Norfolk man has been arrested and faces multiple charges in the February abduction of a 3-month-old, police said Tuesday.
Chesapeake police spokesman L.C. Kosinski said Antonio Obrien Reid, 21, has been charged with felony child neglect, abduction, vehicle theft, larceny with intent to sell or distribute and possession of a stolen vehicle, The Virginian-Pilot reported. Police said the charges were filed on May 17.
An Amber Alert was issued on Feb. 3 for Vanessa Varrios-Dasilva, who was inside an SUV stolen from a Wawa gas station in Chesapeake. Police said the mother left the van unsecured and running, and no charges were filed against her.
According to police, the thief drove off and headed toward Norfolk, but he left the baby in her car seat near some steps at an apartment complex. The baby was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
