In-water boat show canceled in Michigan City
MICHIGAN CITY — The La Porte County Convention and Visitors Bureau announced Sunday that the Progressive Insurance Chicago In-Water Boat Show will not take place in Michigan City this year.
The trade show showcases boating products and gives attendees the opportunity to network with other people in the boating industry. The event was set to take place from Aug. 10 through 13 at Michigan City Port Authority.
While the reason why the event has been canceled has not been revealed, Executive Director of the La Porte County Convention and Visitors Bureau Jack Arnett said it became apparent over the past few months the show would not take place in Michigan City.
“We did everything we could from our end,” Arnett said. “It is now our goal to have a bigger and better event that can take place of the current show.”
Going forward, Visit Michigan City La Porte, Michigan City Port Authority and B & E Marine plan to form a committee to have discussions with a new promoter for the 2018 show. However, nothing is set in stone at this time.
“So far nothing has happened yet but we all agreed that something needed to be done. We probably won’t know what’s going to happen for another month or two,” said Michigan City Port Authority Harbormaster Tim Frame.
Regardless of if the Chicagoland In-Water Boat Show will return in the future, Arnett went on to express thanks for everyone who has helped to make this show a possibility in the past.
“I especially want to thank the Michigan City Port Authority and the City of Michigan City for their efforts,” he said
The boat show became an annual late summer staple starting in 1980 as the Michigan City In-Water Boat Show.
