Learn to Appreciate What You Have -- After All, You Chose This Life
Dear Bonnie: Why does it seem like some have everything and others not enough? -- Kimmy
Dear Kimmy: There’s a saying that’s been out there for a long time -- “The only two things you can be sure of are taxes and dying.” But in the meantime, there is a lot of life to go through. Your soul came to Earth this time around to experience something or someone that it needed to grow and expand and to become more aware.
Have you ever had that feeling of “I know there must be more”? I think we start to ask ourselves this when we are on our journey, and it’s going fine but something deep inside of us knows that something is missing.
Our soul picks who are parents are going to be; yes, that’s right, you picked your mom and dad and the circumstances that you were born into before coming into your earthly situation. Some chose to be born into rich and famous households, while others were born into middle-class families that appear to look like a Normal Rockwell painting. Then there’s the hard-working family that works all the time but never seems to have enough to go around. There are other situations that are far worse than these situations, and you wonder why any soul would want to come down to Earth and live this existence. It’s the hardest situations that offer the most growth.
There is learning and growth in each situation that life will bring us through, both the good and the bad. My mom always told me the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Each of us has his own journey, and sometimes we ponder why our life or situation is the way it is.
I have always told my son since he was little that there are always going to be others who have less than you and others who have more.”
Your soul has been here many times before. Its mission is to experience different situations and has chosen your life the way it is this time on Earth so it can learn from these different experiences -- rich, poor, famous or an average joe -- hopefully, becoming more sympathetic or open-hearted as your soul goes through each situation.
The goal, I believe, is to be at peace with what you have and to be able to understand another’s point of view.
Can you see someone else’s point of view without letting it take the peace inside you? Remember that we are here for just a short time and this is our schoolhouse. We are here to learn, and sometimes it’s a challenge. The next time you are facing a challenge, look at the difficulty from a bird’s-eye view and ask yourself, “What is my lesson? What did I want to learn when I chose to come to Earth in my current situation?”
By looking at obstacles with a different perspective, you might be able to see the lesson. When we learn to grow with each new experience, good or bad, our soul is expanding. With each situation you are going through, there is new opportunity for growth.
Take a deep breath, and trust that it will be OK in the end no matter what the outcome might be.
If you move past and learn from all that is going on around you and face the challenges with a knowing from deep inside that this, too, is a growing spurt, it might take away the fear or worry. Face what you fear and handle the problem from a loving point of view, and notice that the problem or challenge will soon dissipate.
Sometimes we just need to feel that we are enough.
