May 17, 2018 GMT

MICHIGAN CITY — The Boys & Girls Club of Michigan City will hold a Steak & Burger Dinner fundraiser on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Uptown Center, 907 Franklin St., Michigan City.

This event provides members of the community an opportunity to interact directly with Michigan City’s youth, while raising funds for the Boys & Girls Club of Michigan City. The Steak & Burger Dinner draws local civic and community leaders, Club members and staff. With the children eating steaks and the adults eating burgers, it emphasizes “Nothing but the best for our kids!”

“We are thrilled to bring this event back — a chance for caring members of our community to connect with our Club kids, enjoy delicious food, and hear an inspirational word from a local community hero,” said Executive Director Brandi Lewis.

The Keynote Speaker this year is Michigan City native and MCHS graduate Megan Applegate.

Applegate received her bachelor of science in accounting from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University. Next, she attended Indiana University where she received her master of science in accounting while working at Applegate & Company. Megan passed all parts of the Uniform CPA Exam. After earning her master’s degree, Applegate became a business and financial analyst for the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she managed a $26 million budget for the Division of Information Technology (DoIT). She rejoined Applegate & Company in January 2014, and is thrilled to be back in the hometown community.

Outside of Applegate & Company, Applegate is a volunteer firefighter and Emergency Medical Responder for the Long Beach Fire Department. Additionally, she is the secretary and finance chair of the Long Beach Fire Department Governing Board. She’s also a board member of the Michigan City Rotary Club, the Michigan City Chamber of Commerce, the Purdue North Central College of Business Advisory Board, and Michigan City Chamber’s Lakefront Career Network. She also is a member of the Indiana CPA Society, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, La Porte County Family YMCA Annual Campaign, and the Northwest Indiana Leaders (NWIL) young professional organization.

Applegate is heavily involved in the community and works hard to network and connect young professionals in Northwest Indiana. Her hobbies include spending time on Lake Michigan, traveling, gardening and spending time with family and friends.
