Moroccan navy wounds Spaniard, boards boat

RABAT, Morocco (AP) — Morocco’s state news agency says the country’s navy opened fire on a boat carrying two Spaniards after warning shots were ignored, wounding one of them.

Sunday’s report said the navy discovered the boat engaged in “suspicious activities” in the Mediterranean near the port of Tetouan and the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.

The boat ignored verbal cautions and five warning shots, so the navy fired twice on the boat, wounding one.

The Spaniard is being treated in a Tetouan hospital. The report didn’t give details on the severity of the wounds.

The other Spaniard on board has been questioned and placed in custody, the report said.
