Authorities: Fight sparked street shooting that killed 2 men
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A New Year’s Day street shooting in Philadelphia that left two men dead and a woman wounded was sparked by a fight involving two men, authorities said.
The shooting occurred around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, when a man who was among those watching the fight pulled out a gun and started shooting into the crowd, authorities said.
Javon Cooper, 24, and Malik Milburn, 27, were both shot twice in the chest and were taken to hospitals, but both men were pronounced dead a short time later. It wasn’t clear Thursday if one or both of them was involved in the fight.
A 32-year-old woman, who authorities described as an innocent bystander, was shot in the arm and hands and remains hospitalized in stable condition. Her name has not been released.
The shooting remains under investigation. The gunman fled the scene on foot and remains at large.
