Cabell Midland girls top HHS
HUNTINGTON — The Huntington High girls’ basketball team’s fivegame winning streak was snapped with a 48-34 loss to Cabell Midland at Lucas-Archer Gymnasium on Wednesday.
Haley Waugh paced the Knights with 19 points to lead all scorers, netting 11 points in the first half alone in securing the victory for Cabell Midland (14-4), the No. 5-ranked team in Class AAA who was rebounding from a loss Monday to St. Albans.
Alezha Turner scored 11 points to lead Huntington, whose last defeat came in a 55-42 loss at the hands of the Knights on Jan. 22.
The Highlanders struggled early as the Knights forced five Huntington turnovers and an offensive foul in the opening minutes to prevent them from taking advantage of Cabell Midland’s cold shooting.
Waugh teamed with fellow Cabell Midland senior Faith Craddock to score eight consecutive points early, which gave the Knights a 12-4 advantage after one period.
