Broadway leading lady Lora Lee Gayer speaks with local theatre kids at CPAC
Local students enjoy one-on-one vocal and acting coaching with Broadway star via Skype
MaryElla Bussey and Dalton Myers were the two talented students who were able to benefit directly when The Callback Company and Cedartown Performing Arts Center brought Lora Lee Gayer to the hall via Skype.
With Julie Bearden Carver at the piano accompanying the singers, Lora Lee was projected on the scrim for the audience to see. The singers interacted directly via laptop camera.
The pair sang songs from contemporary Broadway shows “Wicked” and “Memphis.” Gayer was able to coach them on the acting choices and vocal technique necessary for a good performance.
Gayer shared personal stories about her own acting experiences and journey to the Broadway stage where she has appeared in Holiday Inn, Dr. Zhivago, and the revival of Follies (opposite Bernadette Peters).
She also starred in the new Bull Durham workshop at The Alliance Theatre in Atlanta. Gayer grew up in Naples, Fla., where she worked with Julie Bearden Carver on the PBS Pops at the Phil production with Erich Kunzel, conductor and Frederika von Stade, mezzo-soprano.
The Callback Company is an Internet-based musical theatre audition prep service which presents workshop, masterclass, cabaret and showcase events across Northwest Georgia. Julie Bearden Carver and Lauren Friday of The Callback Company are co-music directing the CPAC production of Heathers this summer.
They offered to bring Gayer in to greet and work with young students from the Cedartown and surrounding communities and those who are involved with Heathers.
