Lyman homes demolished
A Skagit County Public Works crew this week is demolishing two of three houses in Lyman that were affected by erosion following flooding in November.
The houses belonged to Mark Harris and Michael Taxdahl. A third house belonging to Richard and Vicky Guidinger was also affected by erosion and is slated for demolition later this month.
Skagit County recently purchased the three houses for a combined $1.2 million using Hazard Mitigation Grant Program money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Under county ownership, no development will be allowed on the properties because erosion is expected to continue.
The county, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, town of Lyman and other partners are developing plans for long-term management of the erosion.
