Wrestling: Three Eagles win at Deerfield Scramble

DEERFIELD — Jefferson’s wrestling team crowned three individual champions and placed sixth with a 492 score at the Deerfield Scramble on Saturday.

Quintin Gehrmann (113 pounds), Dean Neff (138) and Jake Neff (160) earned titles for Jefferson.

Gehrmann (34-2) pinned Brookfield East’s Harrison Toone at 1 minute, 18 seconds, scoring a 16-4 major decision over Deerfield’s Zach Wilfong, pinned Kewaunee’s Austin Veeser at :38 and finished with a 14-7 decision over Kenosha Christian Life’s Kade Pinter.

Dean Neff (35-5) pinned Kenosha Christian Life’s Matt Gee at 1:16, scored a 12-2 major decision over Pius XI’s Nate Kane, pinned Monona Grove/McFarland’s Isaac Becker at 2:00 and finished with a 7-2 decision over Lake Mills’ Ben Kalata (23-2), who was bidding for his fourth invitational title of the season.

Jake Neff (35-5) pinned Martin Luther’s Angel Cortes at 1:56, Cedar Grove-Belgium’s Griffin Prinsen at 1:58 and Catholic Memorial’s Isaac Gromacki before closing out the meet with a 10-2 major decision over Madison La Follette’s Jacob Hendrix. Each of the last three wrestlers Neff faced had 24 or more wins this season.

Weston Wright (120) placed fourth. He is 28-12 on the season.

Logan Nguyen (132) placed seventh. He scored two pins. His record is 18-17.

Justin Draeger (145) placed 10th. He scored two pins.

Jose Rios (152) placed fifth. He went 4-1 on the day and is 34-7 overall.

Aaron Heine (170) placed 10th. He went 3-2 with three pins. Curtis Kincaid (182) placed eighth.

Dominic Sadowski (195) placed sixth. He had one pin and one decision.

Noah Schultz (220) placed eighth.

Kalata leads L-Cats

Ben Kalata’s second place finish at 138 led the Lake Mills wrestlers, who finished 17th overall with 143 points.

Kalata pinned Cedar Grove-Belgium’s Tyler Kowalkowski in 2:51 and Monona Grove/McFarland’s Isaac Becker in 5:02 and won an 8-6 decision over Pius XI’s Nate Kane before dropping the 7-2 decision to Dean Neff from Jefferson.

Heavyweight Harley Jones (16-9) placed fourth with one decision for the L-Cats. Alex Schlender (145) placed 11th with one pin. Charlie Cassady (152) placed 12th with one pin.
