WVC ROUNDUP: Coughlin Tops Crestwood In Girls Soccer

At Coughlin, Aby Davis and Esa Mendola each scored first-half goals and then Davis added another score in the second half, as they helped the Coughlin Crusaders beat Crestwood, 3-0, in WVC girls soccer Thursday.

Coughlin goalkeeper Courtney Wartella recorded a nine-save shutout. Crestwood’s Cortney Dushanko had 14 saves in the loss.

It is Crestwood’s first loss this season, as the Comets dropped to 12-1-1 in league play and Coughlin — which has won six in a row — improved to 12-4.

Coughlin’s regular season is over, but Crestwood still has two matches, including a Saturday showdown against Dallas.

At Holy Redeemer, Lauren Kelly played an outstanding game in goal, making 10 saves and helping Wyoming Area secure a shutout on defense.

Offensively, the Warriors scored three of their four goals in the second half, as Tierney Porfirio (three goals), Amanda McCormick (goal) and Aleah Kranson (two assists) led the way.

At Northwest on Wednesday, Sydney Franchella scored in the final minutes of regulation to give the Rangers a late lead.

However, less than a minute later, at the 6:03 mark, Abby Korba countered with a goal of her own to tie the game for Hanover Area. The game remained 1-1 to the end.

Northwest goalkeeper Aleigha Parnell made five saves. Rebecca Merth had nine stops for Hanover Area.

Caroline Kelly totaled a goal and two assists, while Ellie Smith, Dani Beamish and Sadie Henzes added a goal apiece to lead the home team. Abby Davis scored for Crestwood.

At Berwick, Jess Salus had 11 kills and 17 digs to pace Lake-Lehman in a 3-0 victory over the Bulldogs on Thursday in WVC girls volleyball.

Macenzi Barker had nine kills, and Casey Dale added 23 assists for the Black Knights.

Glorimar Guzman had 16 digs and Katie Spencer nine digs and five kills for Berwick.

At North Pocono, Alyssa Lewis notched three aces, 15 kills, five blocks and eight digs to lead the Trojanettes.

Rielly Miller had 33 assists and one kill. Jilann Baron tallied two aces, four kills and four digs.

North Pocono’s Ava Craig had one ace, four kills and two blocks. Lilly Thompson notched four kills. Madison Opalka added 12 assists.
