Disney Recalls Mickey Waffle Iron

March 5, 1999 GMT

BURBANK, Calif. (AP) _ Improperly wired Mickey Mouse waffle irons have been recalled because of a possible hazard of fire, shock or electrocution.

The Walt Disney Co. said it received one report of a waffle iron catching fire at a wall socket. No injuries or damage were reported.

The 1,300 electric waffle irons being recalled were made by a former Disney-licensee, Vitantonio Products, which is no longer in business.

The iron is chrome and black with a Mickey Mouse face for the cooking surface. It was sold for about $60 from October 1996 to January 1997.

Customers who participate in the recall will receive a $70 gift voucher for products in the Disney Catalog, Disney said Thursday.

The waffle irons being recalled have three-prong plugs, the model number 1950 and the serial numbers in these ranges: 17001000 to 17002661, or 46006022 to 46006524.
