Vermont seeking comments on chemical sampling program

June 5, 2019

BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) — The state of Vermont is seeking public comment on a new plan for the sampling of water believed to contain a class of potentially toxic chemicals.

On Tuesday, the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources issued an updated sampling plan for the substances known collectively as PFAS.

The Bennington Banner reports the new plan outlines how the agency will identify and characterize PFAS contamination in soil, groundwater and surface waters like lakes and rivers.

Deputy Secretary of Natural Resources Peter Walke says the plan offers an in-depth look at how the agency will complete a statewide investigation of PFAS contamination.

Comments will be accepted through June 18.

In Vermont, potential PFOA contamination was highlighted after it was found in water around two former factories in the Bennington area.
