Rider 103, Long Island U. 97

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (AP) _ Guard Kevin Finefrock scored a career-high 23 points to lead Rider to a Northeast Conference win over Long Island University 103-97 on Saturday.

Trailing 81-76 with 6:24 left to play, Rider (12-9, 9-4 NEC) went on a 13-2 run by making three three-point field goals to take an 89-83 lead with 2:38 left. Greg Burston scored five points in the run.

Long Island (14-7, 11-2) led 53-42 at the half and 69-56 with 12:29 left to play. Rider went on an 11-0 run, eight points by Ray Touomou, who finished with 20, to cut the lead to 69-67 with 11:11 left to play. Long Island U. head coach Ray Haskins was assessed a technical foul during that run, and Touomou made four foul shots on the play.

The Blackbirds were led by Charles Jones, who scored 42 points, one point shy of the Rider’s Alumni Gym record. Mike Campbell added 23 points and 13 rebounds for Long Island U.

Finefrock made nine of 10 free throws, including eight of eight in the final 2:20.
