Meeting at Fort Moultrie offers help on searching property history
Property owners can learn more about researching the history of a plat during a meeting on Sullivan’s Island next week.
Real-estate abstracter Doreen Larimer will present a free program called “Discovering the History of Your Lowcountry Property” at 6 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Fort Moultrie Visitors Center.
The program is sponsored by the National Park Service, which oversees Fort Moultrie, and Battery Gadsden Cultural Center, which works to preserve Sullivan’s Island’s art and history.
Property titles in the Lowcountry date back to land grants in the 1600s. Larimer will explain how to use public land records to determine the location of an ancestor’s home, basic terminology, how to navigate the county’s websites and how to build a chain of title.
Fort Moultrie is located at 1214 Middle St.
