Family of Tucker Hipps settles lawsuits filed against Clemson University and Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity
The family of Tucker Hipps has settled lawsuits against Clemson University, Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and several members of that fraternity after his death on Lake Hartwell, according to the Greenville News.
Documents filed on Wednesday in Pickens County indicate the settlement was reached after rounds of mediation in the case.
No details of the settlement were released. A judge will have to approve the settlement.
Hipps was a fraternity pledge at Clemson University who fell to his death during a 2014 outing. His case inspired a new state law that has lifted the veil on unruly behavior, drug use and hazing at South Carolina’s public colleges. It requires schools to summarize every violation online.
