WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) _ Rodney Beville’s 92-yard touchdown run highlighted a 17-point third quarter that carried Emory & Henry to a 23-16 victory over Washington & Jefferson in the NCAA Division III South regional final playoff game Saturday.
Beville carried the ball seven times for 147 yards as Emory & Henry advanced to next week’s national semifinals against Wagner and handed the Presidents their first loss in 11 games.
After Washington & Jefferson took a 7-0 lead on A.J. Pagano’s 1-yard touchdown run, Emory & Henry scored 23 straight points.
Gary Collier threw short touchdown passes to F.T. Johnson and Paul Overbay and Fields Soyars kicked a 26-yard field goal.
After Beville’s run closed Emory & Henry’s scoring in the third quarter, Pagano, who gained 87 yards on 25 carries, scored again from the 1 and and John Ivory kicked a 42-yard field goal.
Washington & Jefferson drove to Emory & Henry’s 9-yard line in the last two minutes but an attempted screen pass was intercepted by defensive end Steve Sallee to seal the victory.
Jamie Cassel had 99 yards on 14 carries for Emory & Henry, 11-2.
