US ups duration of non-immigrant visas for Cubans
WASHINGTON (AP) — The United States is extending the duration of non-immigrant visas for Cuban travelers from six months to five years.
The change also means Cubans who are approved for B-2 visas will be allowed multiple entries, rather than just one. Currently Cubans must reapply each time they seek to travel to the United States.
State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell says in an email to The Associated Press that the new policy “removes procedural and financial burdens on Cuban travelers.”
The change comes two weeks after Cuban and U.S. representatives resumed high-level migration talks in Washington.
The discussions are supposed to take place every six months, but none had been held since January 2011.
