N.Y. man arrested in connection with Redding’s elderly scamming case
A second person was arrested for helping scam a Redding resident out of thousands of dollars, police said.
Nnabuike Ibe, 20, of Brooklyn, N.Y. was arrested and recently extradited to Redding. The arrest stems from a February incident where an 86-year old resident was scammed in sending $50,000, police said.
Ibe is charged with attempt to commit larceny of an elderly person. He was detained in Redding on July 27 and held on $75,000 bond, Redding Police Chief Doug Fuchs said.
Fuchs couldn’t comment on the details of the case and Ibe’s role because the investigation is still open. He said officers are looking at another suspect.
Nomel Esso, 21, of Houston, Texas, was arrested earlier this summer. He’s being held on $100,000 bond and charged with first-degree larceny, according to the state Department of Justice website.
