Red Cross helping Bridgeport families after fire
BRIDGEPORT — The American Red Cross is helping two families after a fire Saturday evening at their home on Hallett Street.
According to dispatch reports, firefighters on Saturday were called to the scene of a heavy fire at a three story structure at 735 Hallett Street at 10:30 p.m. Smoke was pouring out of the building at that time, reports said.
The families, which consist of five adults, are receiving a variety of services, including comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant shaving supplies and other items that they may not have been able to gather in a rush to escape the fire, the Red Cross said.
In addition, a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more was provided.
Those affected will meet with Red Cross caseworkers in the coming days to work on a longer-term recovery plan. The Red Cross is able to provide assistance through the generosity of our donors and the commitment of our volunteers.
