Area prep athletic events postponed Tuesday
Some area high school athletic events were postponed on Tuesday night due to the sever cold weather. La Porte’s JV & varsity boys basketball home games versus Logansport were postponed. La Porte’s boys and girls swim meet at Chesterton was postponed. It be held on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. at Chesterton. The Slicers’ boys and girls swim meet at Highland originally scheduled for Thursday night will be rescheduled later.
Satellites’ boys hoops splits pair in classic
South Central’s boys basketball team lost 52-39 at Winamac in a Winter Classic opener on Friday night. Carson Husmann guided the Satellites with 16 points, and Zack Christy had nine points. South Central led 17-15 at half, but got outscored 37-22 in the second half.
The Satellites routed West Central 60-41 in the consolation game of the Winter Classic on Saturday. South Central’s Josh Sims posted 13 points, and Husmann netted 12. Christy had 10 points, while Jake Osburn added nine points. The Satellites won every quarter and outscored the Trojans 15-6 in the second period. South Central’s record is now 2-8.
La Porte High’s Hubner Athletic Hall of Fame inductees
La Porte High School’s Athletic Department has announced the 2018 Norman J. Hubner Athletic Hall of Fame inductees. The following individuals will be inducted on Friday, Jan. 26, between the JV and varsity boys basketball games versus Crown Point: Ron Clindaniel, Chuck Ford, Lambert “Lamby” Lamberson, and Jonell Pinkerton-McKenzie.
La Porte girls basketball schedule change
La Porte’s JV & varsity girls basketball home games versus South Bend Washington on Jan. 20 will be varsity only starting at noon CST.
Glenn girls basketball schedule change
John Glenn’s girls JV and varsity basketball home games on Dec. 9 versus South Bend Clay were postponed due to the weather. Those will be made up on Saturday, Jan. 6, with a 1 p.m. EST JV start.
Michigan City Knights of Columbus free-throw contest
The annual Knights of Columbus free-throw contest will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., on Jan. 20 at Queen of All Saints School gymnasium in Michigan City. The event is open to boys and girls, ages 9-14. Jr. NBA Skills ChallengeThe annual Jr. NBA Skills Challenge youth event will take place at 8 a.m. on Jan. 13 at Michigan City High School. Participation is free for boys and girls, ages 13-and-under. Winners will have a chance to win an all-expense paid trip to New York City and compete for a national title, like Loreli Mallon of Michigan City did last year. MCHS to host Lighthouse Winter boys basketball eventMichigan City High School will host the annual Lighthouse Winter Invitational boys basketball tourney on Jan. 27. There will be three games with teams from Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. The event starts at 4 p.m. with Fort Wayne Wayne facing Rich East (Ill.). The next game will be Gary Lighthouse College Prep vs. Huron (Mich.). The finale will be the host Wolves against Dream Academy from Benton Harbor, Mich.
