2 killed, 3 injured in Florida New Year’s Eve crash
IMMOKALEE, Fla. (AP) — Two people were killed and three others were seriously injured in a New Year’s Eve crash in Florida, authorities said.
An SUV was traveling on a rural road in Collier County shortly before midnight Tuesday when the driver, Danielle Lopez, 22, failed to stop at a stop sign and hit a dirt embankment, Florida Highway Patrol said. The crash killed Edwin Jimenez, 27, and Alfredo Mendoza Gomez, 24, the Naples Daily News reported.
Lopez, along with two other passengers, suffered serious injuries, officials said.
Lopez was charged with driving without a license causing death and disregarding a stop sign.
The crash was not alcohol-related, and all occupants were wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
All of the vehicle’s occupants had been residents of Immokalee, just northwest of where the crash occurred.
