30-year sentence issued to hostage-taker
A judge on Friday ordered a Fort Wayne man accused of holding two women hostage and beating them in 2016 to spend more than 30 years in prison.
Morgan K. Govan, 39, pleaded guilty in January to two counts of criminal confinement, and Allen Superior Judge John Surbeck later found him guilty of a felony drug charge in a bench trial.
Surbeck sentenced Govan to two years and 183 days on one of the confinement charges, two years on the other charge and six years on the drug charge.
During the bench trial, Surbeck ruled Govan is a habitual offender and added 20 years to the sentence on the drug charge Friday, which means the total sentence is 30 years, 183 days.
The sentences will run one after the other.
