Suspect in Arbuckle murders pleaded not guilty

February 7, 2018

Martin Christian Ehrke, 49, of Arbuckle pleaded not guilty to two counts of first degree murder in Colusa County Superior Court this morning (Wednesday).

Ehrke is charged with the murders of Kimberly Lynn Taylor, 39, and Jessica Lynn Mazak, 25. Their bodies were found at an Arbuckle property on Jan. 25. Coroners ruled the women were killed by blunt force trauma.

The bodies were found at a residence on the 6000 block of Hillgate Road near Arbuckle — the property owner was identified as Ehrke’s mother by authorities. They believe she was unaware of the bodies, which were reported to police by others living on the property.

Investigators also confirmed Ehrke’s mother allowed the women to live on her property because they were friends with her son.

Taylor’s body was found inside a large chest freezer, while Mazak’s was submerged in a pond. Ehrke was arrested the same day the bodies were found.

Ehrke’s next scheduled court appearance is a preliminary hearing on April 4 at 8:30 a.m. at Colusa County Superior Court.
