Summer Music Series: Youth Orchestra to play free outdoor concert
More than 120 years of music will be featured at the Pequot Library’s Summer Music Series, which includes jazz, classical, folk and ragtime performances. Both free and ticketed events will be offered.
On Saturday afternoon, June 3, members of the Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras will perform a free outdoor concert on the library’s Great Lawn. Concert-goers are encouraged to pack a picnic and bring a blanket or lawn chairs.
Selections will be offered by the GBYO’s String Orchestra, Jazz Ensemble and Wind Ensemble. Another free summer event is the Hungrytown Folk Concert on the Great Lawn on Tuesday, Aug. 29, at 6 p.m.
“After more than a decade of world-wide touring and three album releases, Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson, otherwise known as the folk duo Hungrytown, have earned a reputation for the quality and authenticity of their songwriting,” the library said in a news release.
Ticketed events will include jazz pianist Rex Cadwallader on Sunday, June 11, at 2 p.m. Classical pianist Alex Beyer takes the spotlight on Thursday, Aug. 24, at 7 p.m. Beyer, who recently graduated from Harvard University, was the 2016 bronze medalist in the Queen Elisabeth (of Belgium) Competition, and was named one of five finalists of the American Pianists Association Awards.
