Brunswick hockey edges Pope Francis in OT

Ryan St. Louis’ goal with 3:03 remaining in overtime lifted the Brunswick School ice hockey team to a 3-2 win over Pope Francis Wednesday night at Hartong Rink.

In overtime, Charles Shaffer’s pass from behind the net found the stick of St. Louis, who finished with a one-timer.

In the non-NEPSIHA matchup against the Western Massachusetts squad, the Bruins (3-3-3, 2-2-3) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period. Shaffer tallied the game’s first goal and his fourth of th season at the 7:54 mark. Henry Foster made it 2-0 with under a minute to play in the opening period, lighting the lamp for the first time this season.


After a scoreless second period, the Cardinals rallied with two goals in the third stanza. A short-handed goal at 7:17 was followed by an even-strength tally by Pope Francis at 14:28, tying the game at 2-2.

The Bruins have some off before heading to Buffalo to play in the Nichols-Belmont Hill Holiday Hockey Tournament, starting on Dec. 28.
