Car Drags Man, Rams Police Cruiser
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) _ A man pushing a disabled car lost control of it, was dragged for a block by the vehicle, which then rolled another six blocks and rammed a police car head on, authorities said.
Earl Kidd, 68, was in serious condition Tuesday with multiple fractures and cuts.
Kidd and his wife, Annie, were outside their disabled car, pushing it while Kidd steered through an open window Monday, said police spokeswoman Derrick Foxworth.
The car got away from them on a hill and Kidd hung on for about a block, Foxworth said.
After he let go, the car struck a retaining wall, severed a utility pole and, at an estimated 40 mph, ran into the police car about six blocks away.
The driver of the police car, Officer Michele Y. Lish, 43, was treated for a minor chest injury.
