Local resident Abigail Turner graduates from Bethany College with distinction
BETHANY, W.Va. — Abigail Turner, daughter of Michelle and Jim Turner of Huntington, graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Bethany College in Bethany, West Virginia, on Saturday, May 11.
The 22-year-old was a 2015 graduate of St. Joseph Central Catholic High School in Huntington.
During her Bethany career, Turner volunteered extensively, including mission trips to Mexico and Puerto Rico. In addition to membership to numerous clubs and organizations, she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority and served as its president. She was also a four-year member of the women’s soccer team.
Following final exams, Bethany College requires all students to pass written and oral comprehensive examinations — Bethany being one of the only colleges in America with such a graduation requirement.
Turner passed her comprehensive examinations “with distinction” and was admitted into Bethany’s exclusive “33″ honorary organization. She
was awarded membership in numerous academic honorary societies including Beta Beta Beta (biology), Gamma Sigma Epsilon (chemistry), and Kappa Mu Epsilon (mathematics).
Turner has been accepted into the College of Veterinary Medicine at The Ohio State University and will begin classes in August as she pursues her lifelong goal to be a veterinarian.
