Provisional ballots released by county
The Cameron County Elections and Voter Registration Department on Wednesday released provisional ballots from the March 6 primary.
“They didn’t influence any of the races,” Elections Administrator Remi Garza said.
Provisional ballots are used when there is a question regarding somebody’s voter registration. Voters are allowed to mark a ballot and give Garza’s department the time to review the circumstances to see whether that ballot actually will be cast.
“It’s a way of capturing the voter’s intent,” Garza said.
In the March 6 primary there were 47 provisional ballots, but only 10 were accepted, Garza said.
The provisional ballots that were not accepted were the result of lapsed voter registration or because someone voted in the wrong precinct.
