Spinners Bounce Back with an Impressive Win

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Thad Ward and Hunter Haworth combined on a two-hitter and the Lowell Spinners defeated the host Staten Island Yankees, 8-0, on Tuesday night.

The Spinners bounced back from a loss on Monday and improved to 33-28 to remain in the thick of the Stedler Division race and the New York-Penn League playoff hunt.

Haworth pitched the final five innings and earned the win to improve to 4-3 on the season. He didn’t allow a hit and walked just one while striking out nine.

Ward allowed two hits over four innings and didn’t issue a walk while striking out three.

Leadoff hitter Grant Williams went 3-for-5 with two runs scored for Lowell. Lane Milligan went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple and three RBI. Trey Ganns also went 2-for-4 and knocked in three runs.

The Spinners and Yankees close out their three-game series on Wednesday (2 p.m.).
