Local Roundup: Nashoba Wrestlers Win Titles

BEVERLY -- Nashoba Regional High School had a pair of wrestling stars crowned champions at the Division 2 state championship at Beverly High School.

Lucien Perla (145 pounds) went 4-0 and Brevin Cassella (152) was 5-0 on their way to claiming state titles. Alex Childs was also a standout for the Chieftains, going 4-2, eventually falling to in the quarterfinals to Dean Pacini of Oliver Ames. Also competing at the event for Nashoba were Dylan Brown (106 pounds, 1-2), Vinny King (126, 0-2), Ben Worden (138, 1-2) and Evan Doig (170, 1-2).

Nashoba finished fifth as a team with 76.5 points. Central Catholic won the title with 167 points, followed by North Attleboro (104.5) and Dracut (81).



Monty Tech


The Bulldogs were also in competition at the Division 2 state championship. Freshman Isiac Paulino went 4-1 at 106 pounds, falling in the semifinal to Burlington’s Zachary Soda. Also for Monty Tech, Xavian Natal went 1-2 at 120 pounds.




The Blue Devils sent a pair of wrestlers to compete in the Division 1 state tournament at Methuen High School. Anthony Larson, a 152 pounds, and Zach Khallady, at 285, each went 1-2 at the event.

Juniors Devan Harris and Jordan Jones each finished with 16 points and seven rebounds as the Falcons (12-13, 7-5 MASCAC) closed out the regular season with an impressive victory.

Fitchburg State has clinched the third seed in the upcoming MASCAC postseason tournament and will host the sixth-seeded Lancers of Worcester State on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Women’s basketball

Junior Angelina Marazzi recorded 16 points and five rebounds, and sophomore Chloe Roberts had 14 points and two boards to lead Fitchburg State (9-16, 2-10 MASCAC) in defeat.

The Falcons have earned the sixth seed in the MASCAC postseason tournament and will travel to face the third-seeded Bears of Bridgewater State on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.

Boys’ hockey

Goalie Nick Kischitz made 19 saves in defeat for Nashoba Regional (5-13-1).

Girls’ hockey

Franklin 5

Leominster 3

Sophia Schuster had two goals and one assist to lead Leominster (4-13) in defeat. Teammate Molly Kimball finished with one goal and one assist, and netminder Colby Lane made 30 saves.
