Police: Lowell Convenience Store Worker Shoots at Would-be Thief

LOWELL -- A convenience store employee fired several gunshots at a suspect during an attempted robbery in the city’s Back Central section on Wednesday night.

It is unknown if the suspect was struck, according to police Capt. Jonathan Webb.

The suspect, armed with a handgun, entered the Valentina’s Portuguese Market on Central Street shortly before 7 p.m. He fled after being shot at by the employee, who is properly licensed to carry, Webb said.

The suspect, who did not shoot back, is described as a tall male wearing a white and black hooded jacket.
