JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. _ Wages will be increasing for millions of low-income workers across the U.S. as the new year ushers in new laws in numerous states. New minimum wage requirements will take effect in 20 states and nearly two dozen cities. The state wage hikes range from an extra nickel per hour in Alaska to a $1-an-hour bump in Maine, Massachusetts and for California employers with more than 25 workers. By David A. Lieb. _ DRIVE-BY SHOOTING-TWO WOUNDED _ Authorities say a drive-by shooting in a Philadelphia neighborhood has left two men hospitalized, including one who was critically injured.

_ TRAIN ACCIDENT-MAN LOSES FOOT _ Authorities say a freight train struck a man and severed his foot after he tripped on some rail tracks.



PITTSBURGH _ It’s a must-win game for the Pittsburgh Steelers when they host the Cincinnati Bengals. The Steelers remain in the hunt for a playoff spot, but must beat the Bengals and hope the Cleveland Browns can beat the Baltimore Ravens. With AP photos.

LANDOVER, Md. _ The Washington Redskins hope to spoil the Philadelphia Eagles bid for a playoff berth when the two teams square off Sunday. To earn a post-season spot, the Eagles need to win the game and have the Chicago Bears beat the Minnesota Vikings.
