Authorities ID woman, children found dead after house fire
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Authorities have released the names of a woman and her three children who were found dead inside an Ohio home that had caught fire.
An investigator with the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office said Thursday that the mother found dead Wednesday in Akron was 31-year-old Lydia Aponte. Investigator Gary Guenther and Akron fire officials on Thursday identified the children as 10-year-old MaKayla Montero, 6-year-old Isaiah Ortiz and 4-year-old Aiden Ortiz.
Akron firefighters responded to the blaze around 9 a.m. Wednesday but couldn’t get inside because flames had engulfed the house. Authorities say one man managed to escape.
Temperatures outside at the time of the fire were near zero (negative 18 Celsius).
Investigators are trying to determine what caused the blaze.
