FSU’s Kelly is Runner of the Week
Fitchburg State senior Amy Kelly was named Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week as announced by the conference office.
The fourth-year Falcon earned her first weekly honor of the season after taking top honors for FSU with a time of 19:15 over the 5K course as Fitchburg State hosted its annual Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational at the Doyle Conservation Center on Saturday morning.
The Fitchburg State women’s cross country team returns to action this weekend as it competes at the Worcester City Meet on Saturdayfor a meet starting at 10 a.m.
FSU soccer takes pair of honors
Fitchburg State Fitchburg State sophomore midfielder Mikaela Mitchell nabbed MASCAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors, while freshman forward Elicia Marshall was tabbed Rookie of the Week honors on Monday afternoon.
Mitchell potted three goals and Marshall posted three goals and one helper in the Falcons’ 7-2 season opening triumph over Bay Path College at Ryan Field on Friday afternoon.
Craig named top rookie
Fitchburg State freshman forward Sarah Craig was named this week’s Little East Conference Field Hockey Rookie of the Week.
The Oakmont Regional graduate scored twice, including her first collegiate tally in the Falcons 5-1 season opening win over New England College on Friday evening.
The Fitchburg State field hockey team (1-0, 0-0 LEC) returns to action today, hosting Colby Sawyer College for its home opener at 4 p.m.
Lunenburg native earns recognition
UMass Dartmouth senior back Maddie McGee-Cochran was named Little East Conference Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after a pair of Corsair victories over the weekend.
McGee-Cochran, a native of Lunenburg and a graduate of Lunenburg High School, led a backfield groups that allowed just eight shots on goal combined in a pair of 2-0 shutout triumphs, the first over Fredonia Friday afternoon at Cressy Field and the second at Albertus Magnus yesterday.
