Deputies seek man accused of beating fellow drinker
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office has obtained a warrant for the arrest of a 56-year-old Santa Fe County man on suspicion of beating an acquaintance and holding a knife to his throat.
According to an affidavit for an arrest warrant, John Baca and another man, whom he had never met before, were drinking together at the Ohkay Casino on Sunday night, before they left together and went to Baca’s house near Pojoaque.
While at the home, the visitor told police, he and Baca got into an argument. He was walking toward the front door to leave when Baca struck him in the back of the head, according to the affidavit.
The man told police Baca hit and kicked him repeatedly, then held a knife to his throat and said: “I will kill you,” the affidavit said.
Baca’s girlfriend called police and told the Sheriff’s Office that Baca left the house on a bicycle, headed toward the Cities of Gold Casino, according to the affidavit. Baca faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.
