85-year term ordered in Easter Sunday slaying
A Fort Wayne man was ordered today to spend 85 years in prison for the brutal murder of Javon Burnett on Easter Sunday.
Tyrion McNair, 25, shot Burnett 13 times that morning. His body was found outside an apartment complex near Memorial Coliseum.
McNair was convicted of murder in a trial earlier this month, and jurors also returned a guilty verdict on a sentencing enhancement for using a gun to commit the crime.
Allen Superior Judge Fran Gull today handed down sentences of 65 years for murder and 20 years on the enhancement -- both maximums, under state law.
McNair said he was not guilty and will appeal.
A motive for the killing was never uncovered, though a man who was with McNair at the time of the shooting said he thought they were at the apartment complex to buy marijuana.
