May 17, 2017 GMT

NORFOLK - Get your team together. The third annual Relay for Malawi is scheduled for this Saturday.

Money raised from the event will benefit the private Norfolk School in the southeast African nation.

The relay starts at the head of the Cowboy Trail at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park Saturday morning at 7:30. Runners will travel 15 miles and back for a 30-mile total. Each team can have as many runners as they’d like. Walkers will start at 9 and travel a mile-and-a-half-out and back.

The founder and CEO of Norfolk Schools in Malawi, Joe Mtika says they’d like to double last year’s contributions of $5,000. He says $10,000 is needed to pay the teachers, the utility bills and pay some unexpected expenses after the Malawian government attached a $7,000 duty plus storage costs on a shipping a container of donated school supplies.

Participants are asked to arrive at 7 a.m. for the 7:30 race. To contribute, simply deposit your donation in a special account at Bank First in Norfolk.
