Crews begin demolition of MSU gyms where roofs collapsed
BOZEMAN, Mont. (AP) — Crews have started demolishing part of a Montana State University gym complex where two roofs collapsed following heavy snowfall earlier this month.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports the section of the university’s student fitness center that was built in 1973 will be torn down and rebuilt.
University President Waded Cruzado announced the demolition Friday, saying the decision was made in consultation with the university’s insurer.
The roof of the South Gym collapsed early March 7. Nobody was injured.
University officials then warned that the North Gym roof would likely collapse, which it did two days later.
Officials say the still standing upper gym that connects the two sides will also be torn down.
