2 accused of killing Virginia teen who was reported missing
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) — Two people were charged with murder for the death of a Virginia teen who was found dead more than two weeks after she was reported missing.
Crystal Ashley Rudy Albritton, 30, was arrested Wednesday for the death of Asia Lionetta Cowell in September, the Newport Police Department said in a news release. The other suspect who was charged is an 18-year-old woman. Police said they are not identifying her because she was a juvenile at the time.
An obituary for Cowell, 17, said she was an aspiring entrepreneur known to her family and friends as “Brown Baby.”
She was reported missing from Norfolk on Sept. 7. Her body was then recovered in Newport News by responding officers who received a call about a deceased person.
“Asia’s murder struck me emotionally. As a father, I couldn’t imagine the pain the Cowell Family has gone through these past few months. I hope that these arrests will help start the healing process in the midst of their suffering,” Norfolk Police Chief Larry D. Boone said.
Albritton and the unidentified teenager face other charges, including abduction by force and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. It was not immediately clear if Albritton had an attorney who could comment on her behalf.
