Tanker truck crashes in Somerset Township cornfield
SOMERSET TOWNSHIP — One person was injured when a tractor-trailer rolled after leaving a roadway Monday morning, leaking diesel fuel into a cornfield.
Pleasant Hill Road was closed from Stutzmantown Road to Hunter School Road until early afternoon.
Listie Fire Chief Scott Yachere said the driver, who was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown, said the tank was full at the time of the crash. He said that when he arrived, diesel fuel was spewing from the tank.
A hazmat official assisted with containment at the scene.
“It rolled several times,” Yachere said.
State police investigated and did not send out a press release Monday.
Clyde McWilliams said his family leases the cornfield. He said it looked as if the field would be OK despite the fuel leak.
Assisting Listie at the scene and with closing roads were fire crews from Friedens, Somerset and Shanksville.
