Police, coroner investigate death of elderly woman in Kankakee
KANKAKEE — Kathleen Kirkpatrick, 61, of Kankakee, was arrested by Kankakee police and charged with killing her 89-year-old mother, Kathleen Ruch, on Saturday.
The preliminary cause of death was the result of a stabbing, Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner told the Daily Journal on Sunday.
Ruch was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 6:26 p.m., Gessner said.
Dispatchers received a 911 call about a possible dead person in a home in the 700 block of South Greenwood Avenue, according to Detective Tim Kriessler of the Kankakee Police.
It is the second homicide in Kankakee this year.
On Jan.1, police found Anthony Stewart II lying in the street in the 200 block of North Chicago Avenue. He was allegedly beaten and then run over by at least one vehicle.
Rashagun M. Hale was arrested and charged with Stewart’s murder.
