SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Springfield police say a 21-year-old man found shot in city apartment has died.

Police responding to 911 calls found Abdul-Azeez Baker suffering from gunshot wounds in a second floor apartment on Union Street at about 11 a.m. Sunday.

He was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he died.

Police say Baker was not a resident of the apartment in which he was found, but lived elsewhere on the street.

The victim was also armed and police say based on the evidence he may have fired his gun shortly before he was shot. The shooting remains under investigation and there was no word on arrests.

It was the city's 19th homicide of the year.
