Little League: Hanover Earns Majors Win
District 16 Baseball
Hanover 11, Nanticoke 1
Nate Tomczak had a double and drove in two runs, while Cole Whitman added a double to lead Hanover over Nanticoke. Jake Vigorito picked up the win on the mound.
Payton Kepp had a double for Nanticoke, while Branden Egenski singled.
Pittston City/Duryea 6, Avoca/Dupont 0
Nick O’Malley hit a three-run home run, and Chase Montigney had two hits as Pittston City/Duryea defeated Avoca/Dupont. Silvio Giardina was the winning pitcher.
Tyler Wintes had a single for Avoca/Dupont.
Plains 7, Mountain Top 0
Jack Mihalchik tossed 5.1 innings of one-hit ball, and also had two hits at the plate as Plains defeated Mountain Top. Jack Senape and Parker Mosley also had two hits for Plains.
Derek Johnson had the only hit for Mountain Top.
South Wilkes-Barre 14, Township Baseball 10
At South Wilkes-Barre, Cael Ropietski went 4 for 5 with a double and also closed out the game with three strong innings of relief for the home team.
Jake Horan had three hits for South Wilkes-Barre, while Cam Hagenbaugh added a double and triple.
Dean Horensky went 4 for 4 with a double for Twp. Baseball. Teammate Drew Delucca hit a pair of singles.
District 31 Baseball
West Side 16, Back Mountain American 4
Scott Davis had a big night on the mound and at the plate in West Side’s victory over Back Mountain American. Davis picked up the win and finished with eight strikeouts. He also helped his cause with a pair of home runs including a grand slam. Paul Rossnell finished with four hits including a home run.
Lucas Tirpak and Tucker Chesman each had two hits for Back Mountain American. Seth Berry scored a pair of runs.
Swoyersville 14, Harveys Lake 4
Lucas Zdanciewicz homered, and Dominick Cavuto roped a pair of doubles to lead Swoyersville over Harveys Lake. Cole Hospodar added a double for Swoyersville, while Noah Kern, Joseph Lapinski and Johnny Roberts all singled. Zach Schultz picked up the win on the mound.
Gavin Wallace had a double for Harveys Lake, while Finn Ellis and Jake Naugle each had a single.
Back Mountain National 8, Kingston/Forty Fort 0
Mike Cumbo and Aiden Burkhardt combined on a no-hitter, while Cumbo and Sam Barrouk each homered in Back Mountain National’s win over Kingston/Forty Fort. Alan Lisman, Cayden Coyne and Gavin Adamski all contributed to Back Mountain National’s 11 hits.
District 16 Baseball
Plains 11, Duryea/Pittston City 1
Nick Mazzarella tossed a two-hitter and struck out six to lead Plains over Duryea/Pittston City in five innings. Mazzarella helped his own cause at the plate with three RBIs.
Logan Sincavage had two hits including a double and drove in one run, while Brandon DelBalso scored three runs.
Josh Lentkowski and Jimmy Noone each had a single for Duryea/Pittston City. T.J. Johnson scored the lone run.
Township Baseball 15, South Wilkes-Barre 2
Brycen Martin had three hits, and Chris Savo added two in Township Baseball’s win over South Wilkes-Barre. Drew Cisney picked up the win on the mound and had a double. Jake Aftewicz also had a double.
Kolton Davies, John Yuknavech and Jake Johnson all singled for South Wilkes-Barre.
District 31 Baseball
Back Mountain National 10, West Pittston 0
Chris Sholtis tossed pitched all four innings without allowing a hit and struck out seven to lead Back Mountain National. Kyle Chesman had three hits, scored three runs and drove in three. Nick Pisaneschi, Bryce Casey and Carter Brunn all had RBI hits.
District 31 Softball
Back Mountain 17, Northwest 0
Nina Barrouk tossed a three-inning perfect game and recorded nine strikeouts to lead Back Mountain over Northwest. Hannah Chipego led the offense with four hits, while Kirsten Finarelli and Barrouk each had three hits.
Olivia Oliver, Carolyn Comitz and Sophia Maier all had two hits.
GWA 3, Harveys Lake 1
Arianna Gaylord struck out 15 batters and helped herself out at the plate with a pair of doubles in GWA’s win over Harveys Lake.
Rene Haddock had two singles and a double for GWA, while Madison Spittel had two singles. Addison Gaylord also singled.
Alexis Shotwell and Haylee Wallace each had a single for Harveys Lake.

Grace Callahan had three hits, while Samantha Herbert and Nora Callahan each had two in Pittston Area’s win over Plains. Lili Hintze picked up the win and struck out seven.
