OpenTable 2017 best restaurants list has surprising omission: NE Ohio

CLEVELAND, Ohio – OpenTable’s most recent list of 100 best restaurants in America has a surprising omission: Northeast Ohio.

Ohio’s three entries come from Cincinnati – Orchids at Palm Court, Restaurant L, and Sotto.

In 2016, Chez Francois in Vermillion and Orchids at Palm Court and Sotto made the list. In 2015, Chez Francois, Umami in Chagrin Falls and Orchids at Palm Court all landed spots.

But this year: Zippo for Northeast Ohio. Which is surprising considering that in the recent past several Greater Cleveland restaurants have been included on various OpenTable lists - most-scenic, hot spots, group dining and others.

Restaurants from more than two dozen states made this year’s diner-driven best 100 list, which is compiled from opinions of more than 12 million reviews covering more than 26,000 restaurants. Opinions were submitted between Nov. 1, 2016, and Oct. 31, 2017.

Reps for the site say while American, French and Italian cuisine are well represented, “there is a growing presence of globally inspired cuisines on the list, including Mediterranean, Japanese, Indian and Middle Eastern.”

Orchids at Palm Court offers fine dining in the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, Restaurant L’s focus is French, and Sotto is Italian.

Here’s the complete list.
