Edward G. Parde, 89, of Adams, passed away Tuesday, Aug 23, 2016. He was born on Oct. 24, 1926 at rural Pickrell. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Pickrell, and attended Sunny Hill Country School. He married Bernice Jobman on Aug. 29, 1948 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, rural Beatrice, and they lived south of Adams, where they farmed for 48 years and raised a family of six children.

As a member of Zion Lutheran Church, he served on various boards and committees, including the church council, park board, parish education and building committee. His musical talents began with playing clarinet in the Hanover Band, and he sang in the Zion church choirs for over 60 years. He was also a member of Lutheran Brotherhood.

Edward served his community in many roles. He was a charter member of the NRD Board and also served on the Hooker Township Board, Adams Elevator Board, and served as a school board member for the Coffman Country School and Adams Public School for 20 years. His hobbies included attending tractor pulls, farm auctions, having coffee with his friends, and attending his grand-children’s activities. In his recent years, he spent his Sunday afternoons visiting the residents at Gold Crest Retirement Center while delivering church bulletins.

Survivors include his wife, Bernice of Adams; five daughters, Shirley Martin of Blue Springs, Carol (Gary) Harms of Cortland, LaDonna (Gene) Wiese of Adams, Barb (Rick) Huls of Grand Island, Teresa (Greg) Thomas of Lincoln; one son, Doug (Cindy) Parde of Adams; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Irene Schoen of Adams; two sisters-in-law, Geneva Parde of Adams, Christina (Jobman) Hofeling of Beatrice; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Heye W. and Reka (Ideus) Parde; sister, Thelma (Henry) Busboom; brother, Wilfred Parde; brothers-in-law, Willard Schoen, John Jobman and Rosa Jobman Johnson, Bill and Edith Jobman, and Harvey Jobman; son-in-law, Kent Martin; sister-in-law, Emma and John Thompson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell, with Pastor Jerry Gilbreath officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery of rural Pickrell. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Zion Lutheran Church and the Freeman Public School Foundation with Ervin Buhr and Kenny Miller in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 8 a.m. Thursday until 9 p.m. Friday, and at the church on Saturday one hour preceding the services.
