NBC holds off David City

October 24, 2016

David City’s final game came down to a goal line play in the final seconds. The Scouts trailed host North Bend Central 25-22 in the final minute on Friday, Oct. 21. Joel Heins had a game saving tackle for the Tigers to hold David City.

North Bend retook the lead with 1:30 in the fourth quarter. Heins scrambled into the end zone on a nine-yard run just five minutes after David City took its second lead of the game.

David City marched after Heins’ touchdown. A pass interference call and one of Will Danielson’s nine completions moved David City down to North Bend’s two yard line. The Scouts had 13 seconds and no timeouts.

Rolling to his left, Danielson tried to find a hole but the Tigers clogged it up. Heins pulled down Danielson on the two and the clock expired.

The Scouts trailed 13-7 after the first quarter.

North Bend’s Dawson Poessnecker lumbered into the end zone from the four. Three minutes later, Heins broke a tackle and went 70 yards up the middle. The Tigers missed three extra point attempts.

Poessnecker and Heins carried the Tiger offense. Heins had five completions for 90 yards, 56 to Poessnecker. The two also combined for 210 rushing yards and all four touchdowns.

David City reached the one yard line before Danielson punched it in. Colin Vandenberg hit the point after, making both of his attempts.

After a defensive battle in the second, Danielson finally found an opening with nine seconds in the half. Danielson found Landon Sweeney in the end zone on a seven-yard pass.

Scouts led 14-13 at the half.

The Tigers picked off Danielson in the third but David City stonewalled them. After a three-and-out by David City’s offense, Heins had a 12-yard touchdown run. North Bend led 19-14.

Ryan Worm bulldozed his way into the end zone on another one-yard carry. Sweeney put the Scouts up by three with a two-point conversion.

Heins’ touchdown in the final two minutes put the Eagles back in the lead but the defense saved the game. The Tigers put pressure on Danielson all night and dropped him for -6 yards rushing.

The game ended the season for North Bend (4-4) and David City (1-8).
