Sauk County Board to adopt rules, elect leaders

Twelve new members will take their seats when a newly elected Sauk County Board convenes for the first time Tuesday night.

After taking the oath of office, the new board will adopt rules, designate an official newspaper for the purposes of publishing legal notices, and elect leadership positions for the next two-year term, including chairperson, vice chairperson, and members of the Executive and Legislative Committee.

Eight of the board’s 31 supervisory districts featured competitive races in the April 3 election. Five of those races featured newcomers challenging incumbents, and the other three included two new candidates vying to replace an outgoing supervisor.

Those eight competitive races resulted in seven newcomers winning seats on the board. Five additional newcomers were elected after having run unopposed to replace outgoing supervisors.

In other business, the board will consider the following action:

Authorizing the $329,380 purchase of communication shelters and equipment in preparation for future upgrades to towers to support the county’s emergency communications network.Approving amendments to the town of Merrimac’s zoning ordinance.Authorize the county’s Highway Department to provide demolition, hauling and removal services and to regrade and seed disturbed areas at the Sauk County Farm in Reedsburg.Amending the county’s 2018 budget to carry forward certain items that were budgeted for prior years.Approving a contract to dispose of weathered railroad ties that were removed during construction of the Great Sauk State Trail.Approving the purchase of four heavy-duty trucks for the county’s Highway Department.Approving a $50,000 contract with Hope House of South Central Wisconsin for services related to the county’s Court Assisted Special Advocate program.Authorizing the closure of two county facilities in May to conduct emergency preparedness drills.Authorizing a $29,568 contract to complete exterior work on the historic Sauk County Courthouse in Baraboo.Authorizing a $16,893 in expenses for emergency repairs to the Sauk County Law Enforcement Center’s generator radiator.Authorizing the $4,100 sale of property in the village of Lake Delton on which the county took a tax deed.
