U.S. Skier Rahlves Dislocates Hip

TRUCKEE, Calif. (AP) _ Daron Rahlves, the world champion in the super giant slalom, dislocated his hip Tuesday a few days before he was scheduled to race in the U.S. Ski Championships.

Tina Chumas, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Ski Team, said Rahlves was injured while free skiing. Chumas said she did not have any details about the accident.

Rahlves, who lives in Truckee, was resting comfortably at Tahoe Forest Hospital and was expected to be released Wednesday after an overnight stay, hospital spokeswoman Teri Smith said. Smith said Rahlves could be back on the slopes in about two months.

The U.S. Championships start Thursday at the Squaw Valley ski area near Truckee.

It has been a tough few months for Rahlves, who won his Super G title a year ago in Austria and was expected to be a medal contender at the Salt Lake City Games. But he finished eighth in the Super G and 16th in the downhill at the Olympics.
