A security guard fatally shot a man during a confrontation that erupted as he was trying to get him to leave the swimming pool area of a far West Side apartment complex, authorities said.

The man was identified Friday as Nickolas Bosch, 40, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Bexar County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sgt. Elizabeth Gonzalez said deputies found Bosch with multiple gunshot wounds late Thursday night at the Thirty Oaks apartments in the 11400 block of Culebra Road.

Investigators said the guard was performing routine duties, which include making sure no one is in the pool area after 10 p.m.

Around 11 p.m., the security guard found a man there and asked him to leave, deputies said. Although the man left the pool area, there was an altercation, Gonzalez said.

Deputies said the security guard used pepper spray “to defend himself from” Bosch.

A witness told investigators Bosch then became increasingly aggressive toward the security guard.

The two began physically fighting, deputies said. The security guard then fired several rounds from his firearm, hitting Bosch multiple times, investigators said.

Responding authorities took Bosch to University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Two children who were at the pool when deputies arrived were examined by paramedics.

As the investigation continued, deputies said one of the children, a 10-year-old boy who is Bosch’s son, witnessed the shooting.

Deputies said the boy would be interviewed by a forensic specialist at a later time.

The security guard is an employee of Statewide Patrol. As of Friday, deputies said no charges were filed.

Gonzalez said the criminal investigations division is now looking into the shooting. She said the Sheriff’s Office may release updates as new information becomes available.
